Asst. Traffic Engineer

Job Description

Assistant Traffic Engineers supervise the signal section, sign and pavement marking section, and engineering section to ensure that all responsibilities and assignments are completed. Assistant Traffic Engineers also prepare signal timing plans for traffic signals, handle citizen complaints relating to traffic and traffic operations, complete complex traffic-related studies such as traffic generation and distribution studies and highway capacity studies. This position involves working with employees in the preparation of traffic signal plan layouts, pavement marking plans and parking facility plans, providing assistance and direction to contractors relating to handling traffic during construction and maintenance operations, and assisting in preparing specifications for traffic-engineering related equipment. Finally, Assistant Traffic Engineers compile and prepare traffic engineering data for public presentations and public hearings and prepare work orders for the installation and removal of traffic control devices and for the completion of traffic studies on local roadways.
